How to compress a PDF to 1 MB

  1. Step 1

Choose the PDF you want to shrink. It is opened in this tab, not uploaded.

  2. Step 2

Keep the 1 MB target, or pick another size or level.

  3. Step 3

Press Compress PDF and download a file of 1 MB or less.

Images are resampled to the size the page draws them and re-encoded step by step until the file is 1 MB or less. Text, links and form fields are not touched, so text stays sharp and selectable. Processing never leaves this tab.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a PDF to under 1 MB?

Drop the PDF here and press Compress PDF. The target is already 1 MB; images are made just small enough to fit, so quality stays as high as possible.

My PDF is already under 1 MB. What happens?

If compressing would not make the file smaller, you get your original file back unchanged.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. The PDF is read and rewritten inside this browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server, and the page keeps working offline once it has loaded.

What if my PDF cannot get that small?

The tool steps image quality down until the file fits. If it would have to wreck the images to get there, it stops and gives you the smallest readable version with a note saying the target was not reached.
